Conway is the county seat of Faulkner County, with 64,134 people at the 2020 census, the eighth-most populous city in Arkansas. With three colleges, it's known as the City of Colleges.

What that means for your move

Students and staff at the University of Central Arkansas, Hendrix College and Central Baptist College mean lots of apartment moves in May and August; see apartment moves. The city also has plenty of family homes, and moves between Conway and Little Rock run about 30 miles down I-40. Student apartments near campus often have tight parking and strict move-in windows.

Conway Station

Asa P. Robinson, chief engineer of the Little Rock-Fort Smith Railroad, received a square mile of land near the old settlement of Cadron as part of his pay. He deeded a small tract back for a depot and laid out a town around it, calling it Conway Station after a well-known Arkansas family. At first it held two stores, two saloons, a depot, some temporary housing and a post office. The railroad town grew into today's college city, and it no longer has passenger trains, so nearly every move here comes by truck; see loading and unloading help if you're driving a rental yourself.
