Little Rock Rental Move-In and Move-Out Checklist

Most disputes at the end of a lease come down to two things: what the place looked like on the first day, and what happened on the last. This checklist helps tenants in Little Rock, North Little Rock, Conway and the surrounding cities move in and out smoothly, and gives property managers something simple to hand out with the lease.

Before moving in

• Confirm the move-in date, time and where to pick up keys
• Ask about moving hours, elevator reservations, gate codes and where a truck can park
• Set up electric, water and internet in your name to start on move-in day
• Book movers early if the date falls in summer or at the end of the month: see apartment and condo moves

Move-in day

1. Walk through every room before furniture comes in and take dated photos and video
2. Note stains, scratches, holes, stuck windows and anything that doesn't work on the move-in form
3. Test smoke alarms, the AC and the water heater
4. Return the signed condition report to the manager within the time the lease allows

Before moving out

• Give written notice by the date in the lease
• Schedule utilities to stop the day after you leave
• Book the moving truck or movers for the morning so cleaning can happen afterward

Move-out day

1. Remove everything, including items in closets, the attic and outdoor storage
2. Clean appliances, cabinets, floors and bathrooms
3. Take dated photos and video of every room once it's empty
4. Return all keys, remotes and gate cards and get a receipt
5. Leave a forwarding address in writing for the deposit

Protecting the building on moving day

Ask movers to pad elevator walls and protect floors and door frames. Damage to common areas during a move is a common charge at move-out. Any reputable mover will protect them as a matter of course; see local moving.
