North Little Rock is a city of 64,591 people (2020), the seventh-most populous in Arkansas, on the north bank of the Arkansas River across from Little Rock. It's home to Dickey-Stephens Park, Simmons Bank Arena and Burns Park, one of the largest city parks in the country.

The city mixes older neighborhoods near downtown with newer subdivisions farther north, plus apartments and lofts around the Argenta district. Moves across the river to Little Rock are short in miles but cross busy bridges, so timing matters when you're paying by the hour; see local moving. Moves from the Park Hill neighborhood and older streets often involve front steps, narrow doors and old houses with no straight path from the curb to the door.

Older homes, narrow streets

Some older streets near downtown are narrow, with on-street parking and steep front steps. Tell the mover about tight access so they can bring the right size truck and enough crew. Game nights at Simmons Bank Arena or Dickey-Stephens Park can clog nearby streets, so check the calendar before booking.

From Argenta to North Little Rock

The community was founded as Argenta on April 18, 1871, and in 1890 Little Rock annexed it as its eighth ward. Residents fought to regain independence, incorporating as the town of North Little Rock in 1901, briefly readopting the name Argenta in 1906 and settling on North Little Rock in 1917. City Hall, built in 1914, still carries plaques and ornaments marked for the City of Argenta.
